We interview our Chief Operating Officer

After 7 years at AT Language Solutions, Joan Corrons has taken on the responsibility for the role of Chief Operating Officer. A challenge Joan will overcome with flying colours, being such a hardworking, responsible and highly analytical person. We learn a bit more about him in this interview.

When did you begin working at AT Language Solutions?
Since February 2014.

How has AT evolved since you joined the company?
There's been a significant leap. AT has evolved a lot in recent years, going from being a relatively small and stable company to a larger, ever-expanding company.

You've now been working as Chief Operating Officer for a few months. What did this promotion mean to you?
It meant - and still means - a major challenge, both for me personally and collectively as part of the Operations team. I've got more responsibility, and more enthusiasm and excitement to press ahead too.

What exactly does your work consist of?
Beyond the technical side, as head of a department I think it's important to be able to get the best out of each team member. If I can achieve that, a lot of my work is already done.

Which aspects of your work do you like most?
The thing that gives me the most satisfaction is being able to tackle the difficult issues the work throws up, and turn them into simple and efficient processes. Looking back, there really have been a lot of examples of this.

What do you like the least?
Not being able to do everything all the time. I'd sometimes like to be able to duplicate myself, so I could do a thousand things all at once - but unfortunately that's not possible and you just need to do one thing at a time.

What would you like to highlight about working at AT Language Solutions?
Without a doubt the whole company's desire to grow and improve. It's a culture that runs through everything and it has a really positive effect.

What is the most significant challenge you have had to face at AT Language Solutions?
Well, in almost seven years at AT, the most significant challenge has been in the last few months, becoming Chief Operating Officer. Luckily I've got the best colleagues there are to make a success of it.

Tell us about yourself as a professional: What do you like most about the world of translation?
Translation makes something seemingly impossible possible: people who speak different languages can communicate and be understood. The best thing is the benefits it brings us in various fields of application.

Without meaning to be too nosey, can you tell us something interesting about yourself? Give us some insight into your personal life. What is your favourite thing to do in your free time?
Well now, with the cold weather and restrictions, it's all about films, the sofa and a blanket. But I'm not complaining!

Well I was about to study physics before I decided to go into translation.

You are granted one wish to travel anywhere you want. Where would you go?
I've always wanted to go to Istanbul.
